askMID is a means of accessing information held on the Motor Insurance Database (MID).
Personal Information is held on the MID and the results of an enquiry may return personal information.
The Policy explains how the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB), as data controller, will process your personal information held on the Motor Insurance Database (MID).
MID data may be used for the purpose of Electronic Vehicle Licensing, establishing whether a driverís use of the vehicle is likely to be covered by a motor insurance policy and for preventing and detecting crime. If you are involved in an accident (in the UK or abroad), other UK insurers, may search the MID to obtain relevant policy information.
Your personal data may be disclosed to third parties, including the DVLA and DVLNI, member insurers, law enforcement bodies, government departments, local authorities and other public or private bodies, where we are obliged or permitted by law to do so. Persons pursuing a claim in respect of a road traffic accident (including citizens of other countries) may also obtain relevant information which is held on the MID.
The Internet is a global medium and your information may therefore be transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA) en route. Your information may be transferred to any country, including countries outside the EEA where the transfer is necessary for the purposes of establishing, exercising or defending legal rights, obtaining legal advice, or in connection with any legal proceedings.
With limited exceptions you have the right to see your personal information held on the MID (we charge £10 per information request - cheques should be made payable to the Motor Insurers' Bureau).
